Trip Overview

Upper Mustang trekking, the forbidden kingdom of Mustang was opened to foreigners since 1992. Hidden behind the Himalayan giants, a vast high valley has barren deserted appearance it would be hard to equal the contrast with other trekking region.

This upper mustang trip offers the incredible geographic and cultural diversity is characterized by wind eroded canyons, colorful rock formations and multicolor Buddhist flags over the top. The wall city of Lo Manthang unofficial capital of Mustang remains a kingdom with in kingdom. Mustang king still maintain his kingship as a ceremonial head of the district.

Upper Mustang valley taking privileges to promote tourism but the limited number of permit are issued to trekkers in order to protect fragile ecosystem and the local unspoiled local culture, not to lost control like some other region.

Outline Itinerary

  • Day 01 : Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel / welcome dinner with cultural program
  • Day 02 : Drive to Pokhara, lake city and Annapurna trekking starting point, over night at hotel.
  • Day 03 : Himalayan flight to Jomsom and commence trekking to Kagbeni, an entrance gate for Upper Mustang; a restricted trekking region in Nepal.
  • Days 4 - 10 : Trekking to Lo-Manthang, the capital of the kingdom inside kingdom, visit the Royal palace, meet the ceremonial king of Upper Mustang, descendants of an aristocratic family from Lhasa in Tibet.
  • Days 11-14 : Trekking down to Jomsom through the Tibetan style settlements of Gami Samar.
  • Days 15 -16 : Fly to Pokhara and then Kathmandu / Free time in Kathmandu
  • Day 17 : Trip end / Airport departure.
